Dear CASD Families, Staff, and Community Members,
We are excited to share the many encouraging updates from across our district! Below are the major highlights from Tuesday’s Coatesville Area School District Board Meeting, where the discussion remained centered on student achievement and continued progress, and there was a lot of it to report!
Celebrating Excellence in CASD
Elementary schools are hosting their spelling bees for students in grades 3–5, with school winners advancing to compete in the District Spelling Bee at Rainbow Elementary on Friday, January 16.
Elementary schools through high school are celebrating the season by hosting winter concerts that showcase the talents of our student musicians.
North Brandywine Middle School and Scott Middle School are no longer designated as CSI schools by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. CSI, which stands for Comprehensive Support and Improvement, is assigned to schools facing the most significant academic challenges.
Caln Elementary and East Fallowfield Elementary are no longer designated as ATSI schools by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. ATSI stands for Additional Targeted Support and Improvement, which identifies schools where specific student groups need additional support.
The meeting began with the swearing in of five board members. Returning members Elizabeth Brindle, Shawna Maxwell, Robin Seagreaves, and Steve Wilson will continue their work in supporting the district, and Robert Knecht was welcomed as the newest member of the board.
Investing in the Future of Learning
A comprehensive planning survey was sent to CASD families and community members to gather feedback for our ongoing planning process, and with more than 300 responses received, the planning committee will begin reviewing and discussing the data at its next meeting on Thursday, December 11.
With two elementary schools closing at the end of the year and a new school opening next year, the district conducted a school boundaries study to help establish updated elementary and middle school attendance areas. Beginning Wednesday, December 10, families can visit our website and use the school locator map to see which schools their child will attend.
The district hosted a student teacher luncheon at the administration building last week, where student teachers and their collaborating teachers gathered to celebrate their work and hear encouraging guidance from Dr. Rybarczyk as they begin their careers in education.
The CASD Kindergarten Carnival date was announced for Wednesday, March 25, at 5:30 p.m.
Another step was taken toward the construction of Doe Run Elementary with the approval of a contract with Recreational Resources, who will be installing the school’s new playground.
Connecting with Our Community
Staff and students from the district took part in the annual Coatesville Christmas Parade during the first weekend of December and had a wonderful time celebrating the holiday season with the community.
CASH's Interact Club held its “Coats for the Cold” drive in November and delivered 84 coats—most of them brand new—to the Salvation Army in Coatesville, where they will be distributed to local residents over the next week to help keep families warm as temperatures drop.
The Coatesville Area Teachers' Association hosted its annual “Photos with Santa” event, capturing more than 500 photos and raising $1,000, which was donated to the local food bank.
King’s Highway, East Fallowfield, and Reeceville each held a food drive, and together they collected more than 2,000 pounds of food to support families in our local communities.

Celebrando la excelencia en CASD
Las escuelas primarias están llevando a cabo sus concursos de ortografía para estudiantes de 3.º a 5.º grado, y los ganadores de cada escuela avanzarán a competir en el Concurso de Ortografía del Distrito en Rainbow Elementary el viernes, 16 de enero.
Desde las escuelas primarias hasta la escuela secundaria, los estudiantes están celebrando la temporada presentando conciertos de invierno que destacan el talento de nuestros músicos estudiantiles.

Invirtiendo en el futuro del aprendizaje
Se envió una encuesta de planificación integral a las familias y miembros de la comunidad de CASD para recopilar opiniones para nuestro proceso continuo de planificación. Con más de 300 respuestas recibidas, el comité de planificación comenzará a revisar y analizar los datos en su próxima reunión el jueves, 11 de diciembre.
Con dos escuelas primarias cerrando al final del año y una nueva escuela abriendo el próximo año, el distrito realizó un estudio de límites escolares para establecer áreas de asistencia actualizadas para escuelas primarias y secundarias. A partir del miércoles, 10 de diciembre, las familias podrán visitar nuestro sitio web y utilizar el mapa de localización escolar para ver a qué escuela asistirá su hijo(a).
El distrito organizó un almuerzo para los maestros practicantes en el edificio administrativo la semana pasada, donde los estudiantes maestros y sus maestros colaboradores se reunieron para celebrar su trabajo y recibir palabras de orientación y ánimo de parte del Dr. Rybarczyk al comenzar sus carreras en la educación.
Se anunció la fecha del Carnaval de Kindergarten de CASD: miércoles, 25 de marzo, a las 5:30 p.m.

Conectándonos con nuestra comunidad
Miembros del personal y estudiantes del distrito participaron en el Desfile Navideño anual de Coatesville durante el primer fin de semana de diciembre y disfrutaron enormemente celebrando la temporada festiva junto a la comunidad.
El Interact Club de CASH llevó a cabo su colecta “Coats for the Cold” en noviembre y entregó 84 abrigos —la mayoría completamente nuevos— al Salvation Army de Coatesville, donde serán distribuidos a los residentes locales durante la próxima semana para ayudar a mantener calientes a las familias mientras bajan las temperaturas.
