Choose Coatesville. Building the Future for Student Success -- one child at a time

This week's Throwback Thursday takes us back to a time when the world watched history unfold as astronauts took humanity's first steps on the Moon, *Sesame Street* made its television debut, and songs by The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and The Temptations filled the airwaves. Tie-dye, peace signs, and muscle cars were everywhere as a new generation helped shape a memorable era.
Take a look at this week's Talaria yearbook photos and see if you recognize any familiar faces from this unforgettable chapter in Coatesville history.
Now it's your turn…
1. Do you recognize anyone?
2. Can you guess the year?

On Monday, students in our Elementary Summer Program enjoyed a special visit from the Elmwood Park Zoo, where they learned about amazing animals and the importance of wildlife conservation through an interactive, hands-on presentation.
A special thank you to the Believe & Achieve Foundation for their partnership in providing enriching experiences like this for our students throughout the summer. We are grateful for their support in making learning fun, engaging, and memorable!

For many members of the Class of 2026, summer is an exciting time filled with preparations for the next chapter. Today's Summer Snapshot features Alexa Shumate, who recently traveled to East Carolina University in North Carolina for freshman orientation before beginning her college journey this fall.
Alexa will always be a Red Raider, but she didn't waste any time picking up some new Pirate gear from the ECU bookstore and posing with the university mascot! Congratulations, Alexa—we wish you all the best as you begin this exciting new chapter.
Want to be featured? Email your student's photo, name, CASD school, grade level (or graduation year), and a brief description of their summer adventure to goodnews@casdschools.org. We can't wait to share more Summer Snapshots!

The Chester County Health Department has issued an Extreme Heat Health Alert for July 15–16 due to dangerously high temperatures and heat index values.
If you need relief from the heat, cooling centers are available throughout Chester County. Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak heat, and check on family, friends, and neighbors.

Today marked the start of the Coatesville Area School District's Administrator Retreat, held this year at Lincoln University thanks to the support and coordination of CASD Board Member Shawna Maxwell.
The day focused on building stronger connections, celebrating points of pride from the past school year, and participating in team-building activities. Administrators also had the privilege of touring the university with Reverend Dr. Frederick Faison, who shared the rich history and enduring mission of Lincoln University. It was an inspiring day of reflection, collaboration, and preparation as we continue Building the Future for Student Success.

Summer Snapshots!
For many of our students, summer means spending long days on the ballfield! Today's Summer Snapshot features members of the Caln A's 14U Baseball Team, most of whom are CASD students.
The team traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, last week to compete at The Ripken Experience Myrtle Beach, where they battled talented teams—and the summer heat—all week long. Their hard work and determination earned them a spot in the championship game, finishing as the tournament runner-up. Congratulations on an outstanding week, and best of luck the rest of the season!
