I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be able to work everyday at a job I love! I am in my sixth year as a special education teacher at Rainbow Elementary. I provide direct instruction for Langauge Arts, Math, and Social Skills for third through fifth grade students in the Low Incidence Resource Program. Prior to this, I taught Special Education for middle and high school students at the Alternative Education Program in Coatesville, as well as providing special education instruction in a neighboring district.

As part of the Social Skills program, my students work in pairs to provide a coffee service to the school staff Tuesdays through Fridays. Our name is "The Brew Crew' and the kids love it! I think this activity provides a great opportunity for the students to practice functional everyday life skills, such as math and money skills, reading schedules, skill buiding, and social skills.

I have lived in Coatesville with my chef husband since 1991. I have three grown children; two daughters and one son. Along with frequent family visits, we have exchanged children for dogs. We currently have two Rottweilers and a Jack Russel...never a dull moment!

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

Every child can learn! Every child has unique strengths and weaknesses, along with positive ideas and feelings to contribute. I believe that it is the responsibility of the teacher to discover those strengths and weaknesses and to use that information to find the best learning style for each student.

I try to inspire and build a confidence in each of my students that allows them to realize their own talents, abilities, and self-worth, and in doing so, to lead your child to his or her full potential. Once this is achieved, the door is then opened for them to become ‘risk takers’ and for a true curiosity to form and love of learning to take place.

One of my favorite quotes:

"Imagination is more important than knowledge"

Albert Einstein
