Dear 7th/8th Grade Community,

I want to extend to you and your family a very warm welcome to the 7th/8th Grade building.  I am honored to be serving as assistant principal at the 7th/8th grade building.  After spending six months as the interim assistant principal at North Brandywine Middle School, I am very happy to continue working as part of an administrative team in this wonderfully welcoming community.

I was born and raised in Coatesville and I am proud to be a Coatesville Area School District Alumni - Class of 1994! As an undergraduate, I attended Millersville University and earned a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Sociology. I earned a graduate degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in the teaching of reading and language arts from West Chester University. From there, I earned a Principal's Certification from Drexel University.

The 2019-2020 school year marks my twenty-first year in the District. During my tenure, I came to understand that middle school is an exciting time when students embark on new adventures in the world of learning. American educator, Robert Maynard Hutchins once said, “The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives.” In this quote, Hutchins captures important wisdom about how to approach middle school learning to make it more fulfilling and significant.  Each year of middle school will provide acquisition of new skills that will enhance students’ abilities to apply learning in many ways. Middle school offers students numerous opportunities to focus on academic rigor and social opportunities that will culminate over time to produce students that are prepared to be life-long learners and responsible global citizens.

I am thrilled to be working with your family this school year and I firmly believe that a successful school year depends on building a positive working relationship between home and school. It is going to be a fun year filled with lots of learning and new adventures, and I can't wait to see what the year has in store for us. It is my pleasure to have the opportunity to work with you and your child as he/she continues his/her middle school experience.

Sincerely,

Maria Stauffer
