Covid Identification Notice 12.4.20

Dear CASD Families and Staff,

As you may have heard, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf and Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine held a press conference regarding updated mandates and guidance for the Commonwealth. The orders address additional COVID-19 mitigation efforts, particularly those that are operating in counties that have been in the substantial transmission phase for more than two weeks.

This update includes level of community transmission as a basis for the recommendations for Pre-K to 12 schools to determine instructional models. It is important to note, that at this time, Chester County is considered to be at the “substantial” level of community transmission, and North Brandywine Middle School has seen two cases in the past 14 days.

Based on the recommendations provided by the Department of Health (DOH) and the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), North Brandywine Middle School will be closed on Monday, December 7th. Teachers will continue virtual instruction until North Brandywine reopens on Tuesday, December 8thThis new guidance applies to all students and staff at North Brandywine.  Please note that our current in person students will remain virtual until December 8th. This closure only impacts North Brandywine.  All other district buildings will operate under their normal schedule.

Per the established protocol, we will complete deep cleanings and sanitize all the affected areas, including using an electrostatic mist sprayer to disinfect. Please know that our protocols include regular cleaning of our facilities.

People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness. Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Please visit the CCHD website at https://www.chesco.org/224/Health for more information and contact your medical provider if you have concerns.

We understand that news such as this is alarming during the pandemic. Please know we are taking every precaution in the interest of staff and students' safety, as informed by the Chester County Health Department and the Pennsylvania Department of Health. If you have any questions regarding your health, please contact your health care provider.

The Coatesville Area School District considers our staff and students' health and well-being to be of the utmost importance. We are committed to providing timely and transparent information to the greatest extent possible to continue making informed decisions regarding your health.

Your support by wearing a mask, washing your hands frequently, social distancing and staying home when you do not feel well, among other precautionary steps, is critical to help mitigate risk for yourself and others. Again, I greatly appreciate everyone’s cooperation and partnership during this time. We will get through this together. Stay healthy, be safe and take care of yourself and one another.

Best,

Tomás Hanna, Superintendent
