CAIHS Monday Morning Message

August 29, 2022

Message from Mr. Maloney

Welcome back families. Today the students started the first day of the 2022-2023 school year. During 1st period the students received their back to school packets and their locker information. The 8th grade students meet with the administrative team in the auditorium during second period to go over procedures, policy and expectations. All 9th grade students met with the administrative team during 3rd period.

To assist with dismissal today, teachers in 8th period will review where all buses are located for afternoon pickup. They will also confirm with the students what bus they ride home on a daily basis.

W.I.N. and MTSS

WIN (What I Need) Time is a 23-minute daily period embedded in the master schedule. WIN has been scheduled for 4th Period for all CAIHS students. WIN Time provides ALL students the opportunity to monitor and reflect upon their performance in the areas of attendance, behavior, and course performance (ABCs). WIN Time also provides students the opportunity to receive the needed supports and services, meet important school related milestones, and remain on-track for graduation based on statewide requirements.

During WIN Time, students will set SMART goals for yearly performance in a Google form to review and monitor with WIN teachers. Students will formally monitor their progress toward goals and discuss ways to improve performance with their WIN teachers.

Below you can open and download a quick PowerPoint Presentation about MTSS and WIN.

Attendance and Retention Policy

As the 2022-2023 school year is now here, there have been recent updates regarding the school district’s policies on attendance and retention. The full policies are on the CASD’s website’s tab, “School Board.” Here are some notable parts of the policies:

  • If a student misses 18 days of school and/or 9 days in a semester, and/or misses the same class 18 times, and/or is habitually late to school, he/she will be required to have a School Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP) meeting. From the meeting, the team will discuss the student’s attendance and make a potential recommendation for retention or being held back.

  • In order to receive credit, a student must attend 90% of his/her class days.

  • If a student misses more than 10 lawful or unlawful absences, requires an excuse from a licensed practitioner of the healing arts or medical doctor.

  • A student can be retained for failing to show academic achievement for promotion.

  • Retention or being held back shall only be considered for the worst-case scenarios and parents/guardians will be notified and a part of the process.

CAIHS families, should you have any questions, please reach out to CAIHS’s administration.

Transitions to Digital Ticketing for all Sporting Events

Good Evening Coatesville Families,

As we approach the upcoming game schedule for our fall teams, please read the important information below regarding our transition from cash sales to digital ticketing. Our first home football game on Friday, August 26 will be our only event this school year in which we will be offering a LIMITED cash sale at the gate for tickets. By making this transition to digital ticketing, will we be aligning with the same procedures for ticket purchasing as used in the District One Playoffs and the PIAA State Championship Tournaments. Digital ticketing also allows for our fans to enter without waiting as long at the gate to purchase tickets and adds another layer of security at our events.

I will be sure to communicate additional information about our upcoming events but have also included our clear bag policy as well as K-7 reminder (must remain with an adult at ALL TIMES) and student created expectations. Thank you and look forward to a successful upcoming fall season!

Please go on to the school website and click on the banner for Athletics and you will see the games listed and the button for purchases tickets. I have attached a screenshot below for demonstration purposes.

Sincerely,

Mr. Chenger

Director of Athletics, Activities and Compliance

Student Schedules

Schedules are available on Home Access. Below are the directions to log into your students schedules.

HOME ACCESS

As students enter the site,

Username: firstname.lastname (no spaces)

Password: student ID

It should be noted that schedules are still being reviewed by guidance and there may be some changes as school starts. Their focus at this time is:

· Ensuring everyone is scheduled correctly

· That the class sizes are within acceptable limits

· Students have the appropriate courses required for promotion and graduation

There will be paper copy schedules handed out today during First Period. Students with questions / concerns can write the issues on those schedules and give them to their first period teachers. They will then be passed along to guidance and reviewed. Please refrain from contacting guidance for things such as teacher preference, elective changes, etc. They will not be addressed during these early days of school. We appreciate your help with this.
