PBIS Prep Rally

On Friday September 23rd we held our first PBIS Pep Rally of the school year. All students attended in the gymnasium and participated in the different events. First, all of the fall sports teams were recognized in front of the student body. Next, students were randomly selected from ROCKS earned to receive either a free T-shirt or tickets to an upcoming Home Football Game. The first event Mc'ed by our own Mrs. Stephens-Franklin was the 8th Grade Basketball Knockout contest. The game was well played and in the end it was a real battle. In the end, Delmar Culbreath was our 8th grade winner. The ninth grade students then participated in the 9th Grade Knockout contest. The crowd was hyped up as Jeremiah Robertson pulled out the victory in a hard fought contest. The next group to compete in the Knockout contest was our staff. Although not as fast as the students, the more experienced staff was focused and on point as they played against each other. Mr. Maloney was the victor in the staff Knockout game. The final Knock out game took place between Mr. Maloney, Jeremiah Robertson and Delmar Culbreath. The overall winner saw Jeremiah take out Mr. Maloney and Delamar to secure the championship.

Next up was the Tug of War. The 8th grade took on one group of 9th grade students. The 8thh grade showed a lot of grit and determination as they slowly and pulled themselves to victory. The 8th Grade students then took on another group of 9th grade students and the Freshmen team pulled themselves to a win. Next up was Staff vs the 9th grade students. Somehow the Freshman added on a few extra students, but the staff tried using their experience and old man and women strength. It did not work, as the Freshmen slowly worked their way into the Tug A War win. The staff have committed themselves to training and will be out for redemption at the next Pep Rally.

As the next event was being set up Rami Ayoub took the middle of the gym floor to perform a well choreographed dance that he has worked on since the last day of the school year. The students cheered as Rami put on a show.

The final competition event was a combination of 8th and 9th grade students participating in a relay was that was fun and exciting. Some of the highlights were the students flying on scooters, flipping tires, and trying to score a basket as quickly as they could. They all had fun and they were determined to finish strong for their respective teams.

In the end the students had the opportunity to join in on some line dancing. They had an awesome time and we will continue to celebrate as a school out accomplishments as a PBIS school.

First Spotlight Meeting

Hello students, parents, and community members, and welcome to the Intermediate High School. One of the positive initiatives at the Intermediate High School is “Spotlight.” Spotlight is our school’s parent association. Spotlight is designed to connect families with our school. Being a member affords parents/guardians an opportunity to listen and voice concerns to administration, help plan for events, and foster a positive culture here at the school. According to Responsive Classroom, “…students whose parents are involved in their schooling are more likely to have higher grades and test scores, attend school regularly, have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school.” Spotlight meetings are held in the school’s library on the last Thursday of the month. Families can attend in person or by the zoom link below. If you have any questions, please reach out to Dr. Alston. Our first meeting is on September 29, 2022. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.

Dr. Jamar Alston is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Attendance and Retention Policy

As the 2022-2023 school year is now here, there have been recent updates regarding the school district’s policies on attendance and retention. The full policies are on the CASD’s website’s tab, “School Board.” Here are some notable parts of the policies:

  • If a student misses 18 days of school and/or 9 days in a semester, and/or misses the same class 18 times, and/or is habitually late to school, he/she will be required to have a School Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP) meeting. From the meeting, the team will discuss the student’s attendance and make a potential recommendation for retention or being held back.

  • In order to receive credit, a student must attend 90% of his/her class days.

  • If a student misses more than 10 lawful or unlawful absences, requires an excuse from a licensed practitioner of the healing arts or medical doctor.

  • A student can be retained for failing to show academic achievement for promotion.

  • Retention or being held back shall only be considered for the worst-case scenarios and parents/guardians will be notified and a part of the process.

CAIHS families, should you have any questions, please reach out to CAIHS’s administration.
