Student of the Month

Families, gives me great pleasure to announce our student of the month for September. This student, according to his teachers, epitomized what it means to Rock it like Rocky and has shown leadership, integrity, and grit in his school work and across our school. September’s honors go to “Quinn Williams.” Quinn has demonstrated these qualities by earning well over 15 ROCKS last month and being recognized by his teachers as being deserving of the honor and the award.

Employee of the Month

The staff member whom received September's Employee of Month has gone well and beyond to make our school fun, positive, and an enjoyable experience for students and faculty. This summer, administration asked her to take on the role of PBIS "Lead Teacher" and she has done an amazing job with this task. She has set the tone for the expectation of the team and has led and coordinated our "Pep Rally" and other amazing tasks with PBIS. Mr. Jones wrote, "I nominate Mrs. Renshaw for Septembers Employee of the Month. Mrs. Renshaw acted selfishly to spearhead organizing the Pep Rally, which was a success for the school. Mrs. Renshaw is also active with PBIS in working to improve the school's culture. Thank you Mrs. Renshaw."

Staff Spotlight

Staff Name and Position: Barb Glass / Art Teacher

What was your favorite grade school subject? Art & Gym

Is there a teacher you remember having who has been particularly influential in your life? Yes, Mr. Alex DiGuiseppe. He was my art teacher at Gordon Jr. High. He helped me realize that I was a good artist and that my talent was something special.

What college did you attend? Moore College of Art & Design for my BFA & Millersville for my Teacher's Cert..

If you were not a school employee what would you be doing instead of this profession? I think this is where I am meant to be. If I could make a good living at being a studio artist and selling my work, that is what I would want to do.

Describe your immediate family. Dan Glass - my husband & friend of 33 years. Danny - my son. He is a 7th & 8th grade football coach & fellow teacher. Cora - my daughter who is a social worker & an amazing young woman. Chris - My foster son. He is also a social worker & High School wide receiver coach. I'm so proud of all the hard work he is doing. Christian - my 2 year old Grandson. He is full of laughter & smiles!

Attendance and Retention Policy

As the 2022-2023 school year is now here, there have been recent updates regarding the school district’s policies on attendance and retention. The full policies are on the CASD’s website’s tab, “School Board.” Here are some notable parts of the policies:

  • If a student misses 18 days of school and/or 9 days in a semester, and/or misses the same class 18 times, and/or is habitually late to school, he/she will be required to have a School Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP) meeting. From the meeting, the team will discuss the student’s attendance and make a potential recommendation for retention or being held back.

  • In order to receive credit, a student must attend 90% of his/her class days.

  • If a student misses more than 10 lawful or unlawful absences, requires an excuse from a licensed practitioner of the healing arts or medical doctor.

  • A student can be retained for failing to show academic achievement for promotion.

  • Retention or being held back shall only be considered for the worst-case scenarios and parents/guardians will be notified and a part of the process.

CAIHS families, should you have any questions, please reach out to CAIHS’s administration.
