CAIHS Tuesday Morning Message

January 3, 2023

Welcome Back!

CAIHS Families,

Welcome back and I hope everyone had a great Holiday Break! I hope you were able to get some time in to relax and be around family and friends. We are getting back into everything as we start the second half of the school year. We need to be focused and mentally prepared as we move forward. We have many upcoming dates that you will need to be aware of. Below is the Mid Term Schedule for 9th Grade Students. 8th Grade does not have Mid Terms. Please be reminded that mid-terms are worth ten percent of your student's final grade.

MAP testing will be held this week for all 8th and 9th grade English and Math students. Encourage your student to do their best in this testing as this could be one of the criteria used for scheduling.

January 19th is the end of the second marking period.

SmartPass Roll Out

Dear Intermediate High School Families

Beginning on January 1th we will begin using the digital hall pass system SmartPass. Teachers will show the students how to log into the system to create passes that week and we will begin to implement the new system that week. SmartPass is a digital hall pass system that replaces traditional hall passes such as sign-out sheets, wooden blocks, passbooks, and lanyards.

It provides administrators an accounting of which students are outside of the classroom during the school day. In case of emergencies such as fires, severe weather, or building intruders, administrators have real-time access to this critical information. Overall, the pass history of a student will lead to more effective and informative parent-teacher conferences, as well as ensuring students are where they should be - in the classroom learning.

During COVID-19, it helps our school go contact-free by eliminating common touch surfaces such as wooden blocks, shared paper sign out sheets, pencils, etc. It also can automatically limit the number of students in the bathroom with minimal intrusion to class instruction. Plus, it can perform contact tracing to get a list of students that were in the room at the same time as another student.

Students and staff can access SmartPass from their school-provided device at www.smartpass.app/login.

For more information, please visit the vendor’s website at www.smartpass.app.

Sincerely,

Mr. Maloney

Important Reminders

  • Hats, Hoodies, sunglasses and full-face masks are not permitted in school. This is a requirement that is found in the Student Code of Conduct on page. 29. Students are not permitted to wear these items for safety reasons. Please be aware that students will be reminded to remove these items if they are found wearing them. We are asking all staff to speak with students about the importance of compliance. In the event, that students refuse to remove these items, they will be referred to an administrator. Parents, you will be notified if this occurs.

Shout Out Opportunity

To foster and help with creating a positive school climate and culture, we have created the “Intermediate Shout Out.” This initiative is based on students, faculty, parents/guardians to publicly acknowledge over the Pa system for good works done here at the school, which relate to PBIS. All one has to do is fill out the google form website, provide your name, the person who you are shouting, and the reason for the shout out.
