    Introductory Ceramics

    .5 credit

    Students will expore ceramic and sculptural forms using handbuilding techniques such as pinch, coil and slab.  An introduction to throwing on the potter's wheel will also be covered.  Students will be introduced to a variety of glaze and surface decorating techniques. Additionally, students will research ancient and contemporary clay objects and artists.  Students will also practice engaging in art critiques.

    Jewelry

    .5 credit

    This course introduces students to learn the basics of jewelry and metalworking techniques, design and construction.  Students will create jewelry forms with both wire and sheet metal and explore a variety of surface textures and applications.  A variety of design development approches will be covered as well as research regarding jewelry usage and meaning throughout the ages. Students will also practice engaging in art critiques.

    Introductory Studio Art

    1.0 credit

    This course is designed for the student who has an interest in art.  Students will gain a solid foundation in the basic elements and principles of art.  A variety of media will be explored.  Art history and artist research will also be included to give students an understanding of the variety of genres used across the globe.  Regular critiques of art work using a variety of approaches will be practiced.

    Drawing and Painting

    .5 credit.

    Students will learn the basic drawing and painting skills and techniques.  They will be introduced to a variety of media for both drawing and painting.  Art history and various artists will be touched upon.  Students will also practice engaging in art critiques.
