Mr. Rodney English

Bienvenue - Wilkommen - Welcome! My Email: englishr@casdschools.org

Back to School Night Welcome Video

I am Rodney English, or Rodrigue Anglais in French, Roderick Englisch in German and Rodrigo Inglese as some know me, and I will be your child's French this year or previously Spanish or German Teacher. I'm excited to share my language and culture with you and your child, in order to enrich our experience and world view, and to be an integral part of helping young people reach their goals in languages and in life. The most important thing to realize is that French and German have large benefits for everyone's life, no matter what his or her goals. French and German will enhance any and every career, life plan, educational plan, opportunity, trip, and social interaction that you may have. More importantly, French and German will create more of these and improve their quality.

French and German not only my DNA but also my life's work: I hold an MA and a BS in Spanish and Secondary Education. I lived in the French, German, and Spanish-speaking world for many years, working, studying, and traveling.

Additionally, I grew up in a French-speaking town, am certified in French, and have taught it. During my employment at the Language Center at the Volkswagen Plant in Mexico, and living in Colonia Humboldt, I learned German and later was certified in it as well.

Courses I teach: French I, II, III, IV, Honors IV, and previously Spanish and German II:

Students are asked to make ten vocabulary flashcards per day, and to study them in the first five minutes of class.

These flashcards are based on French/German content, and are directly related to students' success.

Flashcards are: on the front – English meaning with any notes (for example, masculine, feminine, neuter, singular, plural, case [German only], how to use it, etc.). On the back – French or German term or phrase (with any notes).

Keep them in an envelope, pocket, pouch, or any container that you'd like, or I'll provide an envelope. Label with the unit and date that they were made. For example, Unité 1 on 8-28-17; or Kapitel 1 on 8-28-17.

Have the flashcards daily in class for games and for mini-assessments/quizzes.
